Pork belly donburi
Donburi a.k.a Japanese rice bowls are such a source of comfort food, yummy and filling, perfect with a glass of chilled beer on a summers eve, or with some warm sake on a winters night!
This melt in your mouth Kakuni pork belly in this donburi is absolute perfection.
Prep:
Prep time: 15 minutes
Ingredients:
Pork belly (Refer to Kakuni pork belly recipe)
1/2 stalk of finely chopped scallions/green onions
1 cup steamed sticky rice
1 soft-boiled egg
1 packet roasted seaweed
1 tsp sesame seed
Furikake to taste (Japanese rice seasoning)
Recipe:
I like to season my donburi with sticky rice and furikake (rice seasoning). Go to any Asian store and you can find an assortment of furikake, the bonito (fish flakes) one is my fave!
Season the rice as desired, add a dash of rice wine vinegar to it, and set aside. This dish is all about assembling together a number of ingredients, and it’s the easiest. I like to use a packet of seaweed snacks, some sushi ginger, an over-easy or soft-boiled egg, a generous amount of scallions, and sesame seeds.
Make it your own, switch out the protein, use salmon, or katsu! It’a all up to you.
